My Name is jOhn
mynameisjOhn is a DJ/Producer based in Co. Clare in the West of Ireland. Perhaps now best known as the music-maker in Rusangano Family, he is a veteran of the hiphop and electronic scene in Ireland for many years – hosting parties, spinning records and releasing his own solo productions.
As part of Rusangano Family, he is responsible for all the music production involved – making beats, recording, engineering and mixing. Collectively, they’ve released 4 projects together to date, including the Choice Prize winning album ‘Let the Dead Bury the Dead. The group have appeared at a number of international festivals including SXSW, Eurosonic, The Great Escape, as well as support slots to Run The Jewels, Badbadnotgood and Run The Jewels.
But it’s behind a set of turntables where he’s most comfortable. His focus is never on one particular genre, preferring to create his own unique mix of beats, hiphop, world music, jazz and psychedelic soul. He’s been lucky enough to run with a few collectives in his day and has been a part of Kerrynini, 091, Club Head Bang Bang, A Love Supreme and Community Skratch. DJ support slots for the likes of Daedelus, Gaslamp Killer, Hudson Mohawke, Onra, Ras G, Om Unit, Prefuse 73, Benga, The Pharcyde and Andy Votel have added a level weight to his shows, showing he is capable of sharing a stage with some of the biggest, most respected names in modern hiphop.
